about

Te Whanganui-a-Tara based artist RUBITA collaborates with Southern Tribe on her song 'Cold South,' the 3rd single released off her debut album 'Distinctive Thrill'.
This moody, alternative-pop song illustrates the journey of navigating through a twisted maze of reward and regret through the catchy guitar riff, gloomy synth pad, crunchy brass tones and glossy keys. Southern Tribe takes the essence of this and drips it in a bit of Zero 7 and Portishead, turning Cold South into a 'Trip Hop' master piece.

Based in Kirikiriroa, Southern Tribe is a downbeat / Triphop solo project from Andrew Newth. He prefers a darker, cinematic sound and loves to layer loops to create interesting repetition and textures in his tracks.
Andrew says "I couldn't resist remixing Rubita's 'Cold South'. The groove of the song, especially the main guitar riff is perfect for a bit of glitchy trip hop treatment. The vocal's languid delivery sits perfectly over the loops."
